Causative Verbs | Tips, Tricks and Examples

Causative Verb

Causative verbs are action words that cause another thing to happen. The verbs let, help, have, make and get are causative verbs.


Rules:

1.

sub + different forms of 'make' + agent  → v1

Eg :-

I made him dance.

I was making him dance.

They had made me dance.

I make him dance.

He makes him dance.

They make him dance.

I was making him dance.

They were making him dance.

They have made me dance.

He has made them dance.

I will/shall make him dance.

I will/shall be making them dance.

I will/shall have made them dance.

I will/shall be making them dance.


2.

sub + is/am/are + was/were + made → to +v1

Eg:-

He is made to dance.

I am made to dance.

They are made to dance.

I was made to dance.

They were made to dance


3. 

 sub + different forms of 'get' + agent → to + v1

Eg:-

He gets me to do his work.

He has got me to dance.

They have got me to sing.

They are getting me to lean.



4.

sub + different forms of get + object → v3

Eg:- 

They got their car repaired.

He gets his bike painted.

I am getting my work done.


5.

sub + has/have/had + agent → v1

Eg:- 

He has mechanic work for him.

They had me dance for them.

They have Ramu clean the floor.


6.

sub + has/have/had + obj  → v3

Eg:-

They had their car repaired.

He has his house painted.

They have their work done.


7. Let + person/agent → v1

Eg:- 

Let me dance.

Let them enjoy.

Let her work hard.

Let him do as he like.
